John's school was 1883 The Old School House in East Oxford, Norwich Rd and 3rd Concession. When John's mother Janette died at age of 34, John was about 6 yrs old. John had worked for TR Dent, owner of Springbank Snow countless Farm and Cow Breeder in Woodstock. John followed his brother James and sister Mary Anne "Annie" who were already in Syracuse, NY. John came to Syracuse 3-23-1888. The reason being that they were not able to live with their stepmother who was very mean. Other sister Margaret Jane did come to Syracuse but she disliked it and returned back to live in Canada.

Per letter from Susan Ballard Carrigan: John Green was a hardware salesman most of his life and had a chicken farm as a hobby. He left Canada because he did not get along with his step mother and because he could double his salary of $3 a week to $6 a week in the US.

Per letter from Eleanor Baribault: Barbara Morgan Roberts who lives in Deleware send a copy of 1900 census listing John W. Green and family and James A. Green and family as residing on Pleasant Ave., Syracuse NY. THESE HOUSES ARE STILL THERE.


From FTM notes of Bud Morgan: John attended school at The Old School House in East Oxford, Ontario Norwich Road and 3rd Concession. When John's mother died in 1875, John was about 6 yrs old. His father remarried in about 1878-80 and had 2 sons Gladstone and Garfield

John and Minnie had 5 children.  They then divorced.
In later years John either owned or managed the Elm Tree Inn in McLean ,NY. south of Cortland.
