John Olyer notes: Received a sum of money from a ship accident George Scott his father in law was involved in. Quite a bit of money at the time. George was dead by the time his estate received the money. Per Robert Lord's email.
All of John's sons were lumber jacks but about 1900 they moved to Little Falls and Herkimer.
From Bob Lord regarding postcard logging camp photo: This was sent to Berlin in about 1908. His father John was still in Spring Cove he and his brothers Riley and Delbert came down as they said 1908 to work on the railroad--Riley Olyer was a conductor- Albany to Syracuse ,Berlin started out in Albany Yards and eventually became head supervisor of the switching area in Albany. Delbert worked only a short time for the R.R
May Olyer notes: Our family china cabinet came from her Herkimer home. She was one of the first woman embalmers in NY. According to Robert Lord she had notes on family history that were burned upon her death. The town of Spring Cove, where she married, was a lumber community. Only the spring and a few stone structures could be found in the 1940's per Robert Lord, my father's 2nd cousin. When the trees were cut the lumbermen moved on.
Oscar Alexander Olyer notes: From Sally Story Beu Emery's email: There are family stories about May reading to her father, Oscar, who was blind and a trusted healer of the Indians. There are also stories about May's brothers- that one was a custom's officer on the Canadian Border and another was a smuggler.1880 census occupation listed as farmer and SAYS MOM BORN IN VT
